MARIO Ahouna, Minister of Social Affairs of Lebanon, noted that the consequences of food and financial crises have exacerbated inequality and exacerbated poverty in the world. With the food crisis the number of people living in poor countries continue.
Ms. GANDI TUGSJARGAL, Minister of Social Welfare and Labour of Mongolia, noted that the implementation of the Cairo Programme of Action is facing new challenges and emerging with energy and financial crises, the global warming and the various conflicts that negatively affect the well-being. It therefore stressed that his country is reflecting on the strategies put in place to address these challenges. The Minister then reviewed the various initiatives in its countries to implement the Programme of Action, the national policy on development and population, reproductive health programs and the law against domestic violence.
Mr. Sugiri SYARIEF, Minister of the Coordinating Council of Family Planning in Indonesia, explained that policies related to population were an integral part of the plan long-term development of his country for the period 2005/2025, which based on the Plan of Action of the Cairo Conference. The objective of Indonesia is to manage population growth and mobility and improve information systems, he said. He then stated that Indonesia had managed to reduce significantly the number of people living on less than a dollar a day, and that his country attached now to ensure that the less fortunate does not fall below the level National poverty crises.
