Sometimes music has its way of feeling light on the senses. But it is let down to hear music so beautiful going hand in hand with such a ethereal sound. The album Asking for flowers starts out with a piano. It leads one to think what is it that leaves us speechless with this sound. something that is left out in the rest of the album. But it is the strength of the album is what this lady has to say. She leaves alot to just chance. By starting the album on such a low note it just sets you up of the rest of the album. It is an unbelievable feeling to be left in the hands of Kathleen.
The warmth in her voice will be enough for all those dull mornings to light up. She is an old country girl with a gift to writing lyrics. It is a lot good feeling sounds with just right shade of grey. It is an album that also talks about lasses waiting on for their heroes to come back home while they stay at home and cook. There are even shades of her childhood memories. The Scared At Night song is one of those ones that will give the necessary protection for you to live through the day.
There are shades of Alison Krauss but not that soft but the melody has many similarities. But her strength is her lyrics just so resilient. There are phrases in this album that derives from a lot of maturity and control of her voice. It would be nice to listen to her live crooning to these songs with her all so beautiful timbre. Another powerful but still a low pitch track that feels like its from a dream is Goodbye California. It starts so slow but then picks up with Kathleen echoing the words Your always on my Mind. Just awe inspiring and a song filled with lust and love for good measure. She ends the song with some water laden echoes. The whole song is really poetic and just so dreamy.
Kathleen is a very real person that will make lot of listeners relate to her. Don’t put this record down till its over. You might loose out on other sombre tracks like Sure as Shit. Just dont listen to what people have to say about this album make it your own feelings by listening to this record. Let your mind rest for once.
