Considering that Dj Andrew Butler has been following the music of Arthur Russell religiously. He has sort of brought back some of the 90s great disco scene with this album. There was a rush in choosing his favorite starting track. But the winner in my view should have been Athene sang by the gorgeous Kim Ann Foxman with backing vocals by the great Antony. But this one record where Antony will take a backseat. Each of the songs have a unique trajectory and anyone could be something Andrew can pursue later. One of my fav tracks on this album is You Belong it is almost a acid track but its filled with some interesting backing vocals from Antony. The vocals on the track keep melding on to Nomi’s beautiful voice. It is an unbelievable amalgamation and can leave many people on their wits and dancing out of control.

The unique handling of another song requires a mention its Athene the one people will be talking about. It comes from a very private place. But all the tracks on this album are very open ended giving the singles ample time to breath that is so rare on Dance Album. Andrew has also put in several old classic Techno and Dance references giving the whole album a complex yet organic feel. It is an accomplishment by all means. But it might get forgotten in all the milieu of classic hits.

This is an album that should be sipped with wine. A gentle buzz should do a neat trick and with a partner on the side it will do a whole lot of good. Now for Antony he is at his best here moaning like a caged woman looking for herself in the forest of thoughtlessness. Its encouraging that he embarked on something like after his Mercury prize winning album I am a Bird.

The producers has also shaped many of the records to give it a real texture as well as an edgy sort of sound. It is surely going to be one record that is going to talked about but i m not sure heard by many. Many puritans might just walk from this album by saying its just Disco. But the depth it goes into its mindlessness is really remarkable. I guess I wont recommend this album to my enemies. I will probably be envious of them listening to this. I would probably just call it cacophony.
